Bankroll / Mexican attempted invasion

In 1851 Stillman helped bankroll the attempted invasion of Mexico by Jose Maria Carbajal for the purpose of setting up the republic of the Sierra Madre, which was to extend from Matamoros and Tampico inland to Monterrey, Saltillo, and Nuevo Laredo.

James Stillman, only son of Charles Stillman and Elizabeth Pamela (Goodrich). He was born on June 9, 1850 , at Brownsville , Texas and died on March 15,  1918 in New York City.

Mexican War / Transportation Company

During the Mexican war Charles Stillman recruited Richard King and Mifflin Kenedy in the transport company transporting American troops up the river and supplying them.After the Mexicans were defeated Stillman purchased a great amount of properties of the Garza grand north and northwest of Matamoros from the family Cavazos. But Stillman later on started a town by sell lots for as much as $1,500 each which settled from around 3,000 to 4,000 people and named it Brownsville.
